New to importing? How this works +
1. Check the register. Search by make, model or chassis code. To be imported and complied in Australia, a car needs a current SEVS register entry plus an approved Model Report (MRE), and that’s exactly what the “Currently eligible” filter shows. 2. We land it. JDM Connect sources the car in Japan, handles auction bidding, shipping and customs, end to end. 3. It’s complied and registered. A Registered Automotive Workshop (RAW) carries out the Model Report’s work instructions, an Authorised Vehicle Verifier (AVV) checks and signs off the work, and the car goes on the Register of Approved Vehicles, ready to register like any other car.

Understanding import eligibility

The plain-English version of SEVS, MRE and what makes a car importable.

What is the SEVS register?

The Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS) is an Australian Government register of vehicles eligible for import. Vehicles must fit into certain criteria such as Performance, Environmental, Rarity, Campervan/Motorhome or Mobility. Vehicles under the Performance or Environmental criteria must not have been sold new in Australia, as well as other requirements. A vehicle must have an entry on the SEVS register as well as a corresponding Model Report (MRE) to be imported and complied in Australia.

What is a Model Report?

A Model Report (MRE) is a document that describes how a vehicle on the SEV register may be modified to comply with Australian Design Rules (ADR). The work described in a Model Report is followed by a Registered Automotive Workshop (RAW) and then checked by an Authorised Vehicle Verifier (AVV) before being signed off and completed.

How do I check if my car is eligible to import to Australia?

Search this register by make, model, chassis code, or the year you want the car built in. A green ELIGIBLE badge means the model is currently approved. Always confirm with an import agent before you buy. Or ask JDM Connect for a free eligibility check.

How current is this eligibility data?

It is pulled directly from the Australian Government ROVER portal (the SEVS Register and Model Report Approvals) and refreshed daily. This register is a guide only, always confirm eligibility with an import agent before purchase.
